Ian joined Vantis after spending 18 months with the VAT team at the Law firm Halliwells LLP. Prior to that he was employed by HM Customs & Excise (now HMRC) for twenty eight years, mainly as a VAT Investigator specialising in Civil Fraud, where Ian dealt with various sized businesses, ranging from large multinational corporations to smaller owner-managed businesses. Ian gained a reputation as a VAT fraud expert with restaurants and cash businesses in particular, and would often advise HMRC Policy on VAT fraud issues.
Ian was a trainer at HMRC, responsible for organising, updating and delivering training courses on VAT Fraud techniques. He also wrote and delivered the training course material for the VAT Civil Fraud procedures currently in use by HMRC.
