1. What is a Podcast?

A podcast is an audio or video programme that you can be viewed on a number of different devices (mp3 players, mobile phones, computers, CDs). A podcast can be subscribed to so that new episodes of the podcast are downloaded to your computer automatically or you can download individual episodes as well.

Once you have subscribed to a podcast, you can unsubscribe at any time.

2. What is an mp3?

An mp3 is a popular file type for digital audio. They are around a tenth of the size of files on normal CDs but retain a high-level of quality, by removing frequencies that can’t be heard by the average ear.

3. What is RSS?

RSS stands for ‘Really Simple Syndication’ and automatically informs you when web pages are modified. In the case of podcasts, you will be notified when new podcasts are added.

To subscribe to RSS “feeds” you need to use a “feed reader”, which is software that checks for new content.

Different software have different subscription processes, either searching for podcasts by name or copying the RSS feed address. To get an RSS feed address, click on the RSS icon on your internet browser which looks like this:

Both pieces of software are usually free and easy to set up. Please click here to subscribe via iTunes.
