Jonathan Birch, a Client Partner at Vantis, the AIM listed accounting, tax and business advisory firm, has been appointed President of the IPA, The Insolvency Practitioners’ Association, with effect from 15th May 2008. The IPA is at the forefront in developing professional standards, creating insolvency qualifications and widening access to insolvency knowledge and understanding.
Commenting on his election, Jonathan said: “It is a great honour to have been appointed President of such a prestigious body as the IPA. I will be looking to build and take forward debates on current issues such as regulations and IP qualifications, consumer over-indebtedness, and provide advice, as well as solutions.”
Jonathan Birch, who works within Vantis’ Business Recovery Services practice in London, qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1978 and moved into business recovery in 1979. He has worked as a Licensed Insolvency Practitioner since 1986, including a move to Levy Gee in 1999. Following the merger of Levy Gee (then Numerica) into Vantis in 2005, Jonathan became a Client Partner, where his role is split between being Head of Technical and Risk for the business recovery service division and corporate insolvency work. Of late, the work he undertakes has included advising on the issues arising from pension scheme deficits, as well as solvent reconstructions and general mid-corporate market insolvency.
Jonathan added: “After many years when the financial environment for both corporate and personal borrowers has been benign, the “credit crunch” will call on the skills of insolvency practitioners who are best placed to give advice on the challenges these borrowers will face.”
